Composer Information: Stephen Binnington
Stephen Binnington studied the organ with Alan Spedding at Beverley Minster, before continuing his musical studies at the RCM, London where his professors included John Birch, Hubert Dawkes and Herbert Sumsion.
Alongside his post as Director of the Farrington Music School, Dorset, he enjoys a busy freelance career as an organist and piano accompanist. He has performed at venues such as Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral and Liverpool Cathedral as an organ recitalist, and his interpretation of English organ music was recorded on CD from St. Mary’s church, Beverley to critical acclaim; he is piano accompanist for the shows Musical Storytime and Beyond the stave, which have featured in festival and theatre seasons in the South West and beyond. For 16 years he was conductor of the Blandford Choral Society.
His musical performances in their various guises have informed his published compositions, a body of choral, organ and instrumental work, for which he has received praise from such publications as Church Music Quarterly and Music Teacher:
"Stephen Binnington brings the art of writing short attractive miniatures in contemporary style to a high level."
